I will pass Part A before obtaining 6 months of “relevant legal training” and/or “relevant legal practice or work”
This section applies if you graduated from an approved overseas university and you fulfil all the “qualified person” criteria apart from the requirements (a) to pass Part A of the Bar Examinations and (b) to obtain at least 6 months of “relevant legal practice or work” and/or “relevant legal training” within a continuous period of 8 months as defined in Rule 2 of the Legal Profession (Qualified Persons) Rules (please check the guide ‘Am I a Qualified Person?’).
If you pass Part A before obtaining 6 months of ”relevant legal training” and/or “relevant legal practice or work” within a continuous period of 8 months, these are the admission requirements that you are required to fulfil, and the order in which you must fulfil them:
(i) After passing Part A followed by obtaining 6 months of ”relevant legal training” and/or “relevant legal practice or work” within a continuous period of 8 months, you will need to complete the Part B course and pass Part B of the Bar Examinations, and keep the requisite dining terms (see Section 13 of the Legal Profession Act read together with Rule 16(1) of the Legal Profession (Admission) Rules 2011); and
(ii) After you have attended the Part B course and sat for the written examinations for all examinable subjects in Part B of the Singapore Bar Examinations, you will need to serve the applicable practice training period.
Queries about “relevant legal training”, “relevant legal practice or work”, and the practice training period should be directed to the Singapore Institute of Legal Education.
