FAQs Handled By Other Government Agencies

These are examples of the most common mis-directed queries received by the Ministry of Law.

  • I am dissatisfied with a sentence imposed by the Court. Can I seek advice from the Ministry of Law on what I should do?

The Courts in Singapore are independent and have exclusive jurisdiction over the cases they hear. We regret that the Ministry of Law is not in a position to intervene in any court judgement or ruling.

  • Where do I go to enforce a maintenance order obtained against my ex-husband?

You should approach the Family Court for assistance on enforcement of maintenance order. The Family Court also deals with all family proceedings in Singapore. The Family Court is located at the Family and Juvenile Court Building, 3 Havelock Square, Singapore 059725. They can be contacted at Tel:(65) 6435 5110; Fax: (65) 6435 5112; Email: subct_family_registry@subct.gov.sg

  • I have an issue with the Small Claims Tribunals and would like to know who I can send my feedback to?

As the Small Claims Tribunals come under the purview of the Subordinate Courts, you may wish to send your feedback to subct_registrar@subct.gov.sg

  • I have an enquiry concerning adoption of a child, who should I approach for help?

You may wish to enquire with the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) or visit their website at www.mcys.gov.sg for more information. You may also contact MCYS at Tel: (65) 62589595 or email them

  • I have already gone to see a private lawyer regarding my case but I’m afraid the legal fees will be too exorbitant for me to bear. Can the Ministry of Law help me?

We regret that the Ministry of Law does not provide legal advice. You may wish to approach the Legal Aid Bureau for help if it is a non-criminal case and you qualify for legal aid after undergoing the Means and Merits tests. The Legal Aid Bureau is located at 45 Maxwell Road, URA Centre East Wing, #08-12, Singapore 069118. Alternatively, you may wish to seek assistance from the Law Society of Singapore’s Pro Bono Services Office located at the Subordinate Courts, Level 5, 1 Havelock Square, Singapore 059724.
