Malayan Practitioners
(A) Exemption from the practice training period, the Part B course and the Part B examinations
Under Rule 18(1) of the Legal Profession (Qualified Persons) Rules, you will be exempted from (i) the practice training period; (ii) the preparatory course leading to Part B of the Singapore Bar Examinations; and (iii) the Part B examinations if you fulfil the following requirements:
(a) You are a “qualified person” (please refer to the guide ‘Am I a Qualified Person?’);
(b) You are a Malayan practitioner (defined in the Rules as “any person entitled to practise before a High Court in any part of West Malaysia”); and
(c) You have been in active practice in any part of West Malaysia for a continuous period of not less than 3 years in the 4 years immediately preceding your application for admission as an advocate and solicitor.

(B) Exemption from the practice training period and the Part B course
If you do not fulfil Rule 18(1), under Rule 18(2) of the Legal Profession (Qualified Persons) Rules, you will be exempted from (i) the practice training period and (ii) the preparatory course leading to Part B of the Singapore Bar Examinations (but not the examinations themselves) if you fulfil the following requirements:
(a) You are a “qualified person” (please refer to the guide ‘Am I a Qualified Person?’);
(b) You are a Malayan practitioner (defined in the Rules as “any person entitled to practise before a High Court in any part of West Malaysia”); and
(c) You pass such examinations as the Board of Directors of the Singapore Institute of Legal Education may prescribe under section 10 of the Legal Profession Act for the purposes of Rule 18(2) (see Rule 5).

(C) Exemption
If you do not fulfil either Rule 18(1) or (2), you may wish to appeal to the Minister for Law for an exemption from the "qualified person" criteria, Part B and/or the practice training period.
