Mediations at the Community Mediation Centre (CMC) are facilitated by a panel of volunteer mediators who are paired up to guide disputants through the discussion of their problems and assist them in reaching a mutually acceptable solution. With a panel of 130, it becomes important for them to have the opportunity to network and share mediation experiences and knowledge with each other regularly.

The Youth Mediation Forum entitled 'YOUth Can Make a Difference' opened to a huge turnout of over 570 student and teacher participants from 43 secondary schools at Suntec Singapore's Theatre. With Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs, Assoc Prof Ho Peng Kee as the Guest of Honour and Permanent Secretary (Law), Ms Chan Lai Fung and Deputy Secretary (Law), BG (NS) Yap Ong Heng as guests, the Forum also saw members from the National Committee on Youth Guidance and Rehabilitation and school Principals and Vice-Principals gracing the occasion.

The Community Mediation Unit (CMU) hosted a visit by a group of 22 foreign delegates from Brunei, Cambodia, Egypt, Mongolia, Myanmar, Poland, Rwanda, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Uganda, Vietnam and other countries at the CMC (Subordinate Courts) on 08 Jun 2007.

The Community Mediation Unit (CMU) organised the inaugural two-day Basic Mediation Workshop from 20 to 21 January 2007, together with the North West Community Development Council (NW CDC) to train and equip community leaders and residents with basic mediation skills.

130 mediators who were earlier formally appointed by the Minister for Law under the Community Mediation Centres Act received their certificates of appointment from the Guest of Honour, Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs, Assoc Prof Ho Peng Kee during the Mediators' Appreciation Dinner and Appointment Ceremony held at Grand Hyatt on 1 December 2006.

On 16 Apr 2007, Community Mediation Unit (CMU) collaborated in a pilot training programme organised by the Community Engagement Directorate, Ministry of Home Affairs and the Home Team Academy to brief and train a pilot group of civil servants working on the Community Engagement Programme (CEP) in the CEP cluster lead agencies.

To encourage this spirit of mediation among the youth, the Community Mediation Unit (CMU) met with a team of Singapore Management University (SMU) Business School undergraduates on 15 February 2007 to offer guidance on the running of peer mediation programmes, and to provide pointers on training methods that the undergraduates might adopt to effectively impart mediation skills to the young.
