Overview

The Community Mediation Centres Act became law in 1998, providing for the establishment of the Community Mediation Centres under the Ministry of Law.

The purpose of the Community Mediation Centre is to provide mediation services in social, community or family disputes that do not involve a seizable offence (where police are legally empowered to arrest without a warrant) under any written law. Mediation sessions are conducted in a cordial and informal atmosphere, and as expeditiously as possible.
